Can you retrieve deleted notes?

Updated to ios5 and lost a semesters worth of notes because it said it backed it up but must have failed
I would suggest to explicitly "restore" from the latest backup, but without making a new backup before. If that does not help, you might try an iTunes "backup extractor" application (several of them are available, most of them are for free) to retrieve the contents of Notebooks from the latest backup. This, I hope, should help.
