Notebooks for iPhone Answers

Notebooks 4.2.x (2.1.x) and iOS 5

iOS 5 becomes publicly available on October 12, and we guess that many users want to know if the current version of Notebooks plays well together with the new iOS.

The short answer is: Yes ... but there are a few glitches, nothing serious

To be more precise, this is what what we have found out (and were not able to fix short term)

- When viewing PDF documents on the iPhone or iPad, Notebooks currently does not remember the last opened position. This is due to some fundamental changes in the iOS.

- When using the "split" or "undocked" keyboard on the iPad, Notebooks does not receive enough "feedback" from the iOS and leaves the "Tap again to Edit" message visible. Also, it will not display the extra keys, if you have the enabled. So at the moment, we would recommend to use standard keyboard.

- When returning to split view from fullscreen view on the iPad, the right window will be empty and you have to select the document again in the left column.

We will try to fix these issues as soon as we can, and should you experience any other usually behavior, please let us know.

I also find that word wrap starts to malfunction about half way down the page. The text disappears off the right for a while then coms jerking back into view. It makes it quite difficult to see what I've written and to proof things. Definitely something with iOS 5.0 because I've written many thousands of words just fine until I upgraded my iPad.

Seems to be a problem with Dropbox and WebDAV sync as well. After ios5 installation, the only service selection I get in the file export option is a printer (???). If I select the printer, the app locks up. Very odd. Disconnected and re-established all accounts, but didn't fix the issue.

What are plans for sync via iCloud? Is Apple giving developers the APIs for that?

@Chris: this issue can be solved by selecting a different font/font size. We do not know why all of a sudden the iOS has problems displaying fonts that have correctly worked so far...

@weeverest: Dropbox and WebDAV sync are available through a book's "context menu" and should not be affected with iOS5. When selecting "Print", the iOS takes over and tries to find a printer on your network. Do you have a compatible printer installed?

@scades: we do have iCloud sync on our list, and if all goes well it should be part of the next major update.

since iOS 5 after a WEBDAV Sync my changed/new files on the WEBDAV Server are 0KB small...

Is it a bug?
