A live preview windows editor for markdown and discount

Ayman Rzk, August 01, 2011 16:23

I tried many note taking apps, trying to take notes with rich formatting and images and they just didn't work. Yours kindda work for me. I use it to edit my notes on the iPad and view it on GoodReader or Dropbox which can view HTML well. On the PC side any browser can view them easily but I have a problem editing them on the PC. I know u can edit the text in an editor but the whole idea is to have a rich formatting note system which I can view and edit anywhere. Do you any ideas that can help me achieving that? Do you know any text editor for windows but not even a web app (Simplenote support markdown) that at least provide a live preview? I use WriteMonkey but you have to export every time u edit something and it doesn't support discount.

Looking forward for the automatic syncing and I hope it include the ability to change the location of the Notebooks folder too.

Should I expect an update soon with the ability to export text and images onto a PDF? And are you considering supporting editing RTF or DOC files?

Hi,

rich text editing has been a difficult topic on the iOS since its original version. The Markdown route we have taken a few months ago works if you are ready to accepts its rules and limitations, but I am afraid that at the moment I do not have a recommendation for you (I use a text editor to modify the documents, but they need to be views in Notebooks in order to be correctly converted...)

Chances are that all this will improve with iOS 5, and we will provide a major update of Notebooks that should become something like the "rich text editing system" you describe. With the availability of Notebooks for Mac and PC we should be pretty close. But that is still a few months ahead of us.

The option to convert HTML to PDF is high on our list, too, but we are waiting for a few corrections/additions in the iOS.

Editing RTF and DOC is a huge thing, and there probably is a reason why the iOS has no built in support for that at all. So we will have to watch how things evolve.

Best,
Alfons
