Moving Notes between Books & Sync to Dropbox

mike, June 07, 2011 13:27

In Notebooks for iPad, when I move a Note from one Book to another Book, the original re appears in the place from which I moved it, creating a duplicate. This occurs when I sync with Dropbox. This creates a real mess.

Hello Mike,

this is NOT supposed to happen, because Notebooks tries to synchronize all moves and deletes, too.

- Are you using any special characters in the titles of the books that might confuse Dropbox?
- Did you receive any error messages?
- What happens when you delete the duplicate note in Notebooks, is it deleted on DB as well?

If this problem persists, I would recommend to reset the Dropbox sync history (in Notebook's settings) and start from scratch. The first sync will then report a conflict for all documents that are in NB and already on DB, but this is ok and you can ignore that. After that, consistency should be reestablished.

I hope this helps.
Best,
Alfons

I tried resetting the dropbox sync history and it still happens.
There are no special characters in my file names. I have used these names for a while now and sync to other iPad apps.
I have to delete the duplicate note on both NB and DB otherwise it re-establishes its self on both systems.
Its like this: when you move a note or a book, sync sees it as there in the original place on db and not on nb and therefore puts it back on nb. sync sees it as there no nb in the new location and not on dropbox and therefore puts it on db.
The intelligence to understand that this is a move and not an addition does not appear to be working.

Being able to move things around is key, as is the ability to sync. Without either, there is no point.

I agree, and I can only confirm that this is not the way it is supposed to be.

May I suggest that we continue the trouble shooting by mail? We could also include the issue with the failing DB sync which you mentioned in an extra posting. This is what you might try:

- at the top level of Notebooks, create a new note with the title "Notebooks Log"
- restart Notebooks and sync. Notebooks will now collect status information in this log file
- when finished, please email me the contents of "Notebooks Log" to notebooksapp@me.com

Thanks!
Alfons

The issue with the failing DB sync only happens at work. At home it works fine. The proxi issue that was discussed in other posts is probably the problem. I will take that up with our admins.

I will try your suggestions regarding the duplication issue on the weekend.
