Notebooks for iPhone Answers

I like to use wifi for sharing, even dropbox but are the files encrypted and safe?

Hello

My question is if we can lock the files so no one on the internet can open them, i understand we can create a password for a book or note, so far i noticed only notes in books are protected, but to sync them to dropbox and see everything on the note regardless of what app it does not seem private, what if the notes have credit card numbers etc, is there a way to protect them?

Hi,

you are right, Notebooks protects books and notes as long as they are managed by Notebooks directly, but when these notes are synced to Dropbox, for example, they are NOT encrypted. There are several reasons why we have not yet added encryption (one of them is that you cannot easily open them on the computer).

However, if you sync while Notebooks is protected, your confidential notes will note be transferred.

I hope this helps a bit.

So your saying there is no way to actuallly back up securely and one can loose evrything they have private, any solutions, 3rd party apps on this? No point of using a more deeper notebook app to put tons of research if someone else steals it.

There are options;

- you can back up through iTunes and tell iTunes to encrypt the backup
- you could set up your own WebDAV server on your computer and sync Notebooks with that; this makes sure the documents remain under your control all the time
- you can also save Notebooks' folder to your computer through iTunes' file sharing; again, the documents remain under your control.

Thank you very much, this is a great app and it almost broke my heart but I was sure something was possible.

Thanks again

P.S. I notice double posts somehow and sorry about the auto spelling, I over looked the typos before., on a iPad here.
