Why is the return key not working?

I have attemped to write a note but at the end of the line the printing 'wraps around' but keeps printing on the same line. The return key does not work either. So I can only write one legible line in a note.
I am using iPhone 3GS and downloaded Notebooks on Jan 5, 11.

this effect is new to us, we have never seen or heard of anything like that. To be honest, I cannot really imagine what this looks like.
