Start with top level does not work

There is an option in the iPad settings ... start with top level or last visites. Wow - that's a good idea! I would be happy I could change the application starting always where I left.
So I switched this option on, but it doesn't work.
Did I oversee something? Can you pls advise?

Notebooks' default behavior is to start at the book or document where you left. If you change the setting you mention, please make sure to select "Last viewed", because otherwise Notebooks will always start at the top level.

The option to start at top level is mainly meant for trouble shooting purposes; there may be situations when the last viewed document causes a problem and crashes Notebooks. To escape such a situation you would tell Notebooks to start at the top.

I understood that this option actually is not intended for such use, but Ifor my normal work with notebooks during the working day I would prefer to start at the top level each time I enter - NOT where I left the time before.
Thus I switched the setting to the option "top level". But it didn't work at all. I always land back where I was the last time.
Could there be a basic misunderstanding on my side?

Sorry for my late response ...

I think the "problem" here is multitasking, which never really quits an application but rather puts it in a waiting state in the background. When you "open" it again, the app does not really launch, it is just brought to the foreground, and this is why Notebooks usually takes off where you left it before.

The setting we discussed above has its effect only when Notebooks is launched. So at the moment, I am afraid there is no way to force Notebooks to start at the top level every time you "open" it. - However if you tap and hold the book icon (the jump button), Notebooks immediately jumps back to the top level; I hope, this might be a workaround for you.

Now I understand this - thank you. I'm aware of the way via the top button - it takes just some time, but it works.
