Notebooks for iPhone Answers

Type over/on top of PDF files....New Feature?

Hey, first, I LOVVVEEE this app! I have been searching for an app that would allow me to stay organized in taking notes and creating journal entries with the ability to sort into folders. What you have developed is so great and will help me so much in the future.

The only thing that would make this app perfect for me would be the ability to type on top of a pdf file. I love that you can import PDF files, but if I could type notes on top of the PDF file and save it that way in my notebook, my ipad life would be complete! Do you think there is any way to incorporate this into your app or is it something that is just not possible because of the PDF format? Or maybe there is a way to convert it to an image and then type on top of that image. At any rate, I have a church of over 3000 people that I would promote this app to for their iphone and ipads so they could make notes on our downloadable pdfs during times of teaching if it was available. Let me know what you think the possibilites are.

Thanks!

Oh by the way, I use this on the ipad, if that helps clarify anything.

Hello xknight,

thank you for your great and encouraging feedback!

Although it is just "one thing" that would make Notebooks perfect for you, this is a BIG thing ;-)

PDFs are special in many ways, not only in a positive sense. You probably know that even on a computer only few applications are capable of highlighting PDF documents; there are even fewer that can save the marks back into the PDF.

On the iPad, the selection of apps is even more limited, and there is a reason for this: it is complex and requires computing power. I am sure you have iBooks installed; while iBooks does many fancy things with ebooks, it does not do them with imported PDFs and cannot even highlight text passages...

I am not trying to tell you that your request is impossible to implement, it just involves a considerable complexity, and so it is not very likely that it will be available in Notebooks very soon. But we have it on our list!

The whole thing is much easier with images, and who knows, maybe this will be available in Notebooks soon ;-)

Thanks for your reply. I assumed it was probably fairly difficult to implement. I appreciate your time. FYI, there is one program that is doing this for the ipad in case you might want to check it out and see if there is something to learn from it. It is an app called TakeNotes. Unfortunately, they do not have the nice design that you have nor any way for me to easily save and import the new pdf into your program which is what I prefer to use. They do have the ability to type on top of pdf files and save them after, though. Might be something worth looking into. I think in your hands, that coding could be much better implemented.

Again, thanks for your hard work in making Notebooks so intuitive and both complex yet simple at the same time!
