Notebooks for iPhone Answers

What formats can a Notebook document be exported to (RTF, HTML, PDF, ...)?

Once I create a Notebook document what formats can I export the document to? Can I export to Word, RTF, HTML, PDF, etc.?

Hi,

the default format of a note is plain text, the most general and versatile format available. If you wish, you can convert that to PDF or to HTML. The latter option uses "Markdown", which interprets certain characters in the plain text as formatting instructions to generate HTML. When exported to your computer, this HTML could then be further converted to Word or RTF, either by opening it in Word or another word processor, or by using a toolkit like Multimarkdown (see http://fletcherpenney.net/multimarkdown)

Kind regards,
Alfons

Thanks for your answer. One of the main concerns I had was how to get the document I've created out of Notebooks and into a desktop program such as Word or Pages so I can send it to someone else to use.

Hi again,

we know that reusing documents from Notebooks is crucial, which is why we decided to store the notes in standard formats. I hope my previous reply showed that ;-)

By the way, the probably simplest option to share a document with someone else is by emailing it directly from Notebooks.

Alfons - I am an interloper in this item. I hope that's ok.

I have certainly been able to email a Notebooks file, but I wonder if it would be possible to make such a file into an attachment, rather than incorporating the whole text as part of the email.

Hi Bruce,

discussions are highly welcome here :-)

Technically it is possible to send all documents as attachments; we would have to add an option (a switch in settings?) that allows a user to define which way they prefer. We thought that sending HTML and plain text inline is what most users want anyway...

Best,
Alfons
