Notebooks for iPhone Answers

Crashing, hanging up, etc.

Alfons,

I love your app. I've been a voracious "notes" user since by Palm Pilot days. I have about 500 separate notes. I am using it on a iPhone 4S 16GB.

I love so many things about the program, but it keeps crashing on me. This occurs about 40% of time if the app hasn't been used in a few hours, but only 5% of the time if I was just using the app.

The crashing manifests itself either in the app closing instantly and the device reverting to the home screen, or in a "freeze" where Notebooks stays on the screen but doesn't respond to any touch commands, or only responds after 30-40 seconds, or in a "freeze"where you see the Notebooks welcome screen (with the Wikipedia quote) for 30-40 seconds before it either crashes and reverts to the iPhone home page or starts being responsive.

Any advice?

Hi,

I am sorry to hear that Notebooks is behaving in such a strange way. It does not seem to be a known issue, because you are the first to describe that "crash pattern".

Could you do us a favor? Whenever an app crashes, the iOS generates a crash report, and they should give us more insight into what is going. When you synchronize with iTunes, all the crash logs are transferred to your computer. Here are their locations:

• Mac OS X :~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/
• Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Apple computer\Logs\CrashReporter/
• Windows Vista: C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Apple computer\Logs\CrashReporter/MobileDevice/

The log file names start with Notebooks and have the extension “crash”. They are just plain text files and can be sent by e-mail in original or zipped form, or even copy-pasted into your e-mail program. Please send them at notebooks app@me.com

By the way: does that still happen with the latest version 4.2.3?

Best,
Alfons
